About Me

Hello, Steven here. I am a Freelance Photographer/Cinematographer based between Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. My passion for media arts began in my Junior year of high school where I began filming my friends ride BMX, making short videos for our instagram accounts. With each video I learned more and more and developed a passion for capturing moments. As a Senior in high school I did a year long project on BMX cinematography which allowed me to learn from a handful of BMX's biggest cinematographers at the time. It was amazing to get pointers from the people that I looked up to ever since I started and it really helped me develop my craft.

After graduating High School, I decided to follow my father’s footsteps and pursue a career as a Firefighter/EMT. While I spent time at the firehouse, I always kept my camera close by. In my two years as a fireman in Vermont, I took photos documenting trainings, events, calls and firehouse life. The resulting photo set was featured in the town’s library and are permanently on display in the firehouse’s training room.

Once I had finished all of my formal training, I was given the opportunity to move into a firehouse just outside of the Nation’s Capital in Maryland. This lead me to my first job as an in house content creator for Underwriters Laboratories. In my two years there, I went from an intern to a full time “content developer” where I made everything from photos for social media, audio and 360 video for the organizations LMS and video for Youtube.

During this time I also worked as a contract cinematographer at First Arriving, a public safety marketing group that focuses in media for fire department recruitment and retention.

In my free time I enjoy filming action sports and street photography. Through my experience, I have developed skills in Movi Operation, Lighting & Grip, Audio, Editing in the Adobe Suite and DaVinci Resolve, as well as camera operation with brands such as Canon, Sony and Red.

While not behind the lens, my hobbies include; hiking, biking, skiing, and exploring the city.
